Research and Evidence Based Generation

AINHE-O conducted studies on Community Dialogue Plus (CD+) and Social Listening to generate evidence on immunization, health, and nutrition behaviors in Afghanistan. The CD+ effectiveness study assessed immunization coverage and the influence of community dialogue on behavioral and social drivers of vaccination across 19 districts, while the national Social Listening study covered all 34 provinces to understand community perceptions, beliefs, barriers, and experiences related to health and nutrition. Findings highlighted the importance of community engagement, trusted frontline health workers, improved access to services, and targeted communication to address misinformation and strengthen demand for health and nutrition services. The evidence provides valuable insights to inform context-specific social and behavior change strategies and future health and nutrition interventions in Afghanistan.

Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation

The MMS research initiative aims to generate evidence on the coverage and adherence of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) among pregnant women in Afghanistan. The study explores barriers and enablers influencing MMS uptake and adherence and identifies strategies to improve MMS delivery through antenatal care services. The research is being implemented across Kabul, Nangarhar, and Balkh using qualitative interviews, focus group discussions, Trial of Improved Practices (TIPs), and co-design workshops. The findings will support context-specific strategies to strengthen maternal nutrition interventions and improve maternal and birth outcomes in Afghanistan.

Locally led, evidence-driven programs advancing nutrition, health and household well-being across Afghanistan.
