The Afghanistan Institute of Nutrition and Home Economics, an affiliate of AINHE-O and registered separately as an academic institute in Afghanistan, strives to build a capable workforce within and beyond the institute to guide policies and programs tackling hunger and malnutrition in Afghanistan. By uniting nutrition experts and academics, we provide diploma and certificate programs designed to enrich the expertise of both emerging and established professionals in the nutrition field.
The Institute aims to advocate for and implement academic training programs in nutrition, a crucial and unmet gap in Afghanistan, and promote and conduct context-based research to address capacity gaps and inform policies and interventions in nutrition.
Actions for Integrated Nutrition, Health, and Home Economics Organization (AINHE-O) is a registered NGO in Afghanistan that strives to contribute towards Afghanistan’s growth and prosperity through efforts in the areas of nutrition, health, food security, and household economy. AINHE-O’s experienced and committed team, community reach, and collaborative approach enable it to plan and implement locally led, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate programs.
The people of Afghanistan possess tremendous courage, resilience and potential for growth. Through collaborative and dedicated efforts, especially for children and women who are integral to our collective prosperity and prospects, we are committed to improving their well-being through integrated, equitable and effective programs in the key areas of nutrition, health and home economics.
We are focused on leading local capacity building initiatives, conducting context-based research and delivering essential services and support to the communities. With a growing and dedicated team, we encourage communities and partners to join hands and work towards our shared goals of ending hunger, improving health and making economic gains.
Ensure a prosperous future for Afghanistan by championing optimal nutrition, health, and economic well-being for all its people.
Deliver community-centric and integrated programs that enhance health, nutrition, and economic well-being, guided by context-based evidence and strengthened by local capacity.
At AINHE, our work is driven by a multidisciplinary team of professionals who bring together expertise in medicine, public health, nutrition, research, monitoring and evaluation, data management, administration, finance, and field coordination. Together, our team combines technical knowledge with practical experience to design and implement evidence-based programs that respond to the needs of communities across Afghanistan.
Our technical and public health work is strengthened by Dr. Nasratullah Akbari, a medical doctor and public health professional with extensive experience in healthcare delivery, nutrition, research, training, and program management. He holds a Master of Public Health from Kabul University of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Akbari has served as a university lecturer, master trainer, provincial supervisor, and regional coordinator. His experience in capacity building, field leadership, research, and stakeholder coordination plays an important role in translating public health knowledge into practical community-level interventions.
Behind the organization’s operational and financial systems is Sayed Mujtaba, an experienced administrative and financial professional with more than a decade of experience in government and international development settings. With a Master of Business Administration and a strong background in financial management, procurement, and operational oversight, he helps ensure that AINHE’s resources and processes are managed responsibly, efficiently, and transparently.
Our growing focus on evidence and data is supported by Ms. Muqadsa Yousufi, a medical professional with additional training in information technology and experience in monitoring and evaluation, data management, digital data collection, and health research. She has supported major initiatives including MIYCN, UNICEF-supported Social Listening, Community Dialogue Plus, and WASH activities, and has worked with consultants on the revision of the MIYCN package.
Her work involves coordinating field teams, managing multi-province datasets, supporting digital data collection through platforms such as KoboToolbox and SurveyMonkey, conducting data quality checks, supporting research activities, and strengthening reporting and evidence generation.
The team is further supported by dedicated administrative, finance, and liaison staff who contribute to coordination, documentation, financial and operational management, and communication with partners and field teams. Our support team, including assistants, cooks, cleaners, guards, drivers, and other operational staff, plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient working environment and ensuring that AINHE’s programs and daily operations run smoothly.
Together, our team combines different skills and experience to support AINHE’s work in public health, nutrition, research, and community development. We work collaboratively to build local capacity and improve the lives of communities across Afghanistan.
