Women and children are especially vulnerable to malnutrition, which can have profound and lasting impacts on their health and well-being. Recognizing the critical need for specialized maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN) services, and with the generous support of UNICEF, we have enhanced the capabilities of over 6,000 frontline health and nutrition workers across 16 provinces in Afghanistan. This initiative has equipped medical specialists, midwives, nurses, and nutrition counselors with the essential skills and knowledge required to provide tailored MIYCN services, thereby improving the health and nutrition outcomes for women and children.
Furthermore, our program has successfully developed a robust network of over 200 MIYCN Master Trainers representing all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Trained with the right skills and knowledge, they are committed to raising the quality and accessibility of essential nutrition services by providing ongoing training and supportive supervision. This strategic approach not only strengthens workforce capacity but also ensures a sustainable impact on the communities we serve.
